One of Port Lincoln’s iconic fishing vessels, the ‘MFV TACOMA’ was built by the Haldane Family and launched in 1951 and has an impressive fishing period. With a variety of catches including Purse Seining salmon, tuna and prawns, it also sadly has claimed the life of a person at sea.
Since it’s decommission in 2002, it has found its home in the Lincoln Cove Marina and with the help of the ‘Tacoma Preservation Society’ lives on to be an icon of the fishing industry in Port Lincoln, to be enjoyed by many people.
While painting this picture, I would regularly become quite nostalgic about the hard life that this boat and its industry would endure.
With the boat retired at the Marina, I have tried to paint the peace and tranquillity that it now justly deserves.
